How can you legitimately get Discord Nitro for free?

Through the Epic Games Store's occasional bundles, which sometimes include a month of Nitro (or three) when claiming certain free games.

A cheaper subscription tier than full Nitro, with reduced perks (limited emojis, a profile badge) but still a paid plan.

Free Discord Nitro: The One Real Offer

"Nitro code generators" have circulated on YouTube and Discord itself for years, and the principle has never changed: none of them work. Discord Inc. handles its subscriptions exclusively through its own payment system — no external loophole lets anyone generate a premium subscription from a third-party site.

The offer that actually works: Epic Games Store bundles

The Epic Games Store regularly includes a month of Discord Nitro (sometimes three) in bundled offers tied to purchasing or claiming certain free games of the week. It's not permanent or systematic — the offer appears intermittently, tied to occasional partnerships between Epic and Discord — but when it's active, it activates automatically once the relevant game is claimed, with no code to enter anywhere. The only reliable habit is checking the game's page directly in the Epic launcher — the same publisher behind Fortnite and its V-Bucks — before buying or claiming it: the Nitro-included mention, if it exists, is displayed clearly there.

The fake codes circulating on Discord servers

A classic: someone posts in a server a link for "unlimited free Nitro codes" that redirects to a fake Discord login page. Once your credentials are entered, the account is immediately compromised and then used to spam that same link across all your own servers. Discord never distributes Nitro through a private link sent by another user, no matter how convincing the message looks. The pattern is identical on the fake Robux generators, with one shared tell that gives them away in three seconds.

The server boosting program

Boosting a Discord server (with an already-paid Nitro subscription) gives perks to the boosted server, but doesn't give you free Nitro in return — it's the opposite of the mechanism you're looking for here, worth not confusing.

Gifting between users

A Nitro subscriber can officially gift a month to another user directly from Discord's settings, paid for by them. If a friend does this for you, it's legitimate — but it's still a gift someone else paid for, not a free mechanism you can reproduce yourself.

How to spot a Nitro scam at a glance

A shortened link (bit.ly, tinyurl) promising free Nitro that asks you to log back into Discord.
A DM bot announcing you've been "randomly selected" to receive a Nitro gift.
A page that looks like discord.com but whose URL contains an extra word (discord-nitro.com, discordapp-gift.net, etc.).

Nitro Basic: the cheaper subscription tier worth knowing about

Discord also offers Nitro Basic, a subscription tier cheaper than full Nitro, with reduced perks (limited custom emojis, a slightly higher upload file size, a profile badge) but without the most sought-after features like included server boosting. It's still not free, but it's an overlooked option for anyone who wants to unlock a few perks without paying the full price — and it beats chasing a free shortcut that doesn't exist. The subscription-tier question comes up in exactly the same terms over at Spotify Premium, where one option escapes most comparisons.

In summary

The only genuinely documented free path runs through the Epic Games Store's occasional bundles, worth checking yourself in the launcher rather than trusting a site that claims to know better on your behalf. Any link asking you to log back into Discord to "unlock" a gift deserves to be closed without hesitation, no matter how urgent the message looks.
